Blackberry Patch

Everyday she called,
"Meet me at the blackberry patch."

Down the road, down the path in the woods
Where other kids never play, we met,
Playfully, boldly to imagine new things.

Back before the do-it-all phone and
Its dire, dark, thru-a-glass operations
Came the total concoction of blackness
And that singing wire of Whittman's
America, hopped on chocolates and
Recipes for domestic bliss in a wall to wall
Modern day era of budding new faith in
Tech wonders to save man from drudgery.

It was clear that wire and TV tech
Would one day hook up to the sci-fi future
And lovers would meet in the air like
Renegades of rapture echoing over tiny
Speakers and toy-like video media.

Call it the Dick Tracy moment...

Now, full circle back in the black,
Faces emerge in the dark with plaintive
Sounds to arrange ever more clandestine,
Secret places to meet and mate on
Devices that would never have been,
Unless a few children of a much, too
Ordinary culture met to make plans
That would take the whole world to the

Blackberry patch and beyond.
