JIMMY WARNER DESIGN,
ANSWERS TO LETTERS TO MY FUTURE SELF
"an interesting complex Interplay of positive and negative forms"
(a common art school critique just short of bravo sierra)
You walked every black-white block of streets
Framed by telephone poles and lonely windows
Reflecting off hellfire sunsets in all directions.
Without a camera your inner eye saw the future.
After 1970's seminars and College symposiums
You knew the sobering consequences of carbon.
Still, you kept on exploring the senses, poetry
Of bourbon, ass kick of grass and white fences
All the way to three varieties of wedding cake.
You saw the carpet of sameness spreading
And the suffering amplified by your own,
The unsafe search for simple answers illusive.
From here you appear to lurch forward with an
Eye on the past and a blind eye for the future,
Despite knowing any truth you could hope for.
So you filled in the white crayon outline of you
With bright watercolor and blue eye shadow
And a global grid-line approach to personality.
You assumed that later in life you would have
The experience to refine what motifs you could
Only sketch in frightful gesture and heady scope.
Your reality came from the wheel of everything,
Spinning along wherever it tried to go, writing
And drawing in desperate scrawl as if to askÖ
Is a vision just an interesting complex Interplay
Of positive and negative forms, or did you finally
Reach a triumphant, recapitulating statement?
Does it take a Buddha brain exceeding confines
Of the cranium to crack the art code message or
Make normal logical decisions about pictures?
It isnít all flowers, moonbeams and twilight stars.
The future is here to redeem, an age of wisdom,
When we own our self-awareness and aim high
No matter how insane that leap might seem.
