MUX BOOK

Mux is a TV tech word for multiplexor

For Alex

Sci-Fi hand held 1969

We are multiplexed and our future is looking into it.
People want their lives to be multiplexed seamlessly
Not looking like abductees assimilated by the hive
Mind, using dozens of implants, weird-ass jewelry, or
Needing a pocket protector for every techno-gadget.

Point and retrieve. Thatís what we long for, a wand
You aim down an aisle and your fav grocery item
Behaves like a car lost in a parking lot, or a jpeg
Of that aisle goes animated from saved g-list to the
Product,  waving to you, here I am, Iím over here!

At some point you will want to turn off the stupid
Animation and the insipid cartoon voice, but itíll
Still be a hoot. Why waste a mind with googling
All that stuff? Itís not that important. 50,000 brand
Names and symbols in a food store? Donít bother.

We canít even survive a geography lesson,
Donít even go there. Youíll get lost. Oh GPS!
That old thing! Thatíll never let you down!

Stuff  should come airborne, hover buzzard, wingy
Nike bird, Ectro Bagger, and more brand names
Than anyone should know, except YOUR personal
MUX BOOK, and yíshouldnít oughta hafta hold it
In your hand while it irradiates your future grip...

Your grip on the future, such as it is.

It could be a discreet device at first, easy to
Spot, track, did I say hack? But, one day itíll be
Part of a port-a-cloud family of micro novelties,
Seamless future clothing, hidden prosthetic or
A speck appearing in the eye, a lens implant.

                   Mux II                   Mux implant

I could be wearing one right now, recording
Every thing that moves. Do the wife and hubby
Know where you are? They will, soon as this
Upload goes public, or pan global grid panic
Breaks in nightmare un-civilizations near you!

Where will you be if the w-w-w wants you?
You gonna duck and cover, shuck and jive?
Do what you did during the white van hunt,
Hide from Zodiacs and the Ramsey note?
Go doomsday preppie, hunger games,

Duct Tape?

Then again, suppose you need help, want it bad,
And no one understands you, thinks its all a joke,
Your voice doesnít work, hands, legs, nothing,
What do you do then? Lean on the escape button
Till help arrives, press operator, press 9-1-1?

It doesnít work now. Think itíll work then, when
Every thingís riding on it, hopes, dreams, and so
Many billions of fellow earthlings like yourself?
Suppose youíre the alien and the system wonít
Recognize you, wonít let you waste nano sec.s.

Any thing new has to have a dork-wad evolution
Like dot-gov rollouts, or the guy who wondered
If a pager could locate his object of desire, not a
Problem for his muxer, besides, it will recognize
Every single solitary person in a crowded ba-r-r.

...Sleep Command.
