      Peace of Mind
for P

I made my peace with all the gods
walked a path of righteous and wretched,
wore the odd fleece and torn hat, took
followers on talking tours for rare sights.
I accept my heart for the cod-piece it used to be, shook out my well-hung idolatries that
I clung to, spooling while it unraveled me:

A piece of my mind I tried to see
but no one could make me see

You on the other hand showed me heights,
tested my darkly named deities, and
released old abuses I used for solitude.
Climbing for the hawk stare and his feather
I declared my new look, a life that is all
that is left of what belongs to you:

The peace no other made me see
No one else could make me see

Crest and heraldry, my bragging rites
are put aside, my armor shed for the bed
we share, the rest of love still lies here;
no hidden heart, no youthful quest remains
to be out done, the rest is what longs to be:

Peace of mind you made me see,
no one else could ever make me see.
