Delta Window  (Whitewashed and Crayon Clear)

As clear as crayon streak a whitewashed window
clarifies a blue-green view of the bay tempered
with joy and torment, a wild with red-face ache,
a just-in-from-the-wind exuberant day of play in
salt treats of the sea, on the skin, a thin wording,
someday to splash together pages of my tell-time
and quickly over, dying and prickly drying brine.

Everyday wonders, still fresh, define marine blue
windows, spanning dawn to dust drawn afternoon
out to white caps and lush deep lavender evening
rolling in from slant sea to my bay green breakers.
Mornings of breakfast mist and pink milk sunrise
painting the pines, boyhood's out to test the tines
of saw grass and vine black feet up the mossy run.

Tragic times and tides have taken all away but the
wood sprite whispers that gave voice and the stone
wrap around sense of grammar I fell victim to, dry
grass rhythm I shuffled through, notions listened
to with falling night at my heels, and the insane
orchestra of insect desperation droning behind
against cautionary frogs chirping their morality.

Delta window, whitewashed and crayon clear,
memories dear as land sweet smells and breezes
off the faint bay, sound, revive and rebound in
my private second story time, potted plant filled
windows now, their own silent drama out of loam
and lyric as green as my once collected summers
where teachers of the path, switches to the brow,
brown leaf covers to my bedtime tale bow down.
