Destiny Was Always You

 Destiny mp3

My drunken boat was deeper shades of gloom,
a color less than blue, though no-less nobler hue,
its voyage of doom for whom the water seeping in
proved message from within, destination overdue.

You waved to me to let you come aboard, together,
sometimes drunk, we made our colors known,
yours, curly foam of shore, mine, the depths below.
The sailboat docked, you got out, another got in.

Destiny was always you, bravely keeping a seat,
slipping, swaying til the troughs became too deep,
a bridge we passed went over from despair to hope.
All we get, whatever we seek, is farther up the creek.

I tied the boat, walked away, billows furled again,
the bridge we passed was on the bank downstream.
Crossing my arching destiny my colors faded fast,
thankful, my dream of you was waiting there at last.
