      Forest Image Altar

Round fox and furrow the wild
haunt ran, brown leaf giving,
puddle deep and sapling rich,

bound rock and burrow, a black
run of brook and down ravine,
brambles thread wayfarer burrs,

spread rain seed and crackle to
puff ball, bed and bug, to curvy
larvae crust and care, a seasonís

tilted even light and all its cool
comes down the goddess path
her brushy fall harvest planting

loving as deep blue, an airy frost
prepares a nightly winterís sleep
in heads of autumnal creatures,

small features primed with bare,
scarce logic, perchance to burn
free another spring with progeny.

To this forest image altar I knelt,
found words crawling out from
decks of oak leaf burnished cards,

from nut cache and worm chest,
hollow hive and lair, beings who
churn a world we only dare visit.

In comfort vantage we pray this
willing to stay beyond these hours,
despite stray billions of concerns.
