NOVEMBER 2012

WAY DOWN, WAY OUT

It all follows the curved elephantís trunk,
the way down, the way out, and the story
of hellís travelogue, how all things worsen
before they get better and Gaul-war boring.

Tall hollows echo my bullet blue history
sound dance hall phonics on journeys bound
for hell mouth, wheel the gurney squealing
to the bitter suffering, the outrageous stings,

burning desires to worsen before they get better.

The siege, from which ever war you return
or go hence forth from curtains to curtains,
does not explain the concrete mechanics of
solid complaint's faint mirage of uncertainty.

Under the big tent, stars control the show,
universal circus of marksmanship insanity,
elephant riders and clowns, lives thought to
be less faithful by homogenized humanity,

pilgrims who burn more fervently as they get better.

To escape the fires and pits of contagion,
dodge the bullets, end the falling downward,
you rehearse the nobler version, mind the
mantra lodged in logic, older trunk unwound.

The trip ends in the desert where symbols
are few though their meaning infinitely vast.
Stealing past the show tents, the sleepers
and the carnies, elephants visit your last,

a pointless better or worsening of the main event
though you burn with curiosity about the content.
