DECEMBER  2008

Not Since, Nor Ever

Not since a sagging boat pole steadied me
On a shimmering sunset riverfront dockside;
Nor ever since my silver rimmed keys knocked
Words from ribbons of ink and home sky,

And not since the rain cells kept popping up
Like mushrooms to entertain me while my
First symbols woke from their icy caves
And huffed the magic frost of my trembling.

Not since my chance cauldron of cabal
Burped and floated a first willful spell,
Nor even since breakfast, the moist fumes
on the morningís invention of November,

And not since earlier this afternoon
Painting odd-ball, no Godly score to keep,
Nor since the Triassic, chasm of goo and
candy bright lashes of color and flame

Have I plunged harder than my parentsí
Olympic sized chlorination, sync-or-swim
Rearing absurd skills or even since the
recycling of all my out-dated objectivity

Did I once waver, choke on a vibe, rave
Over anything more spontaneous than a
Beautiful choice I make seeing the brew,
The headwaters of my inner juices, the

One contraband seizure legal officials
Would  have me throw overboard, pull up
Anchor and vacate forever - a relic wall
Hanging, rusty inboard engine, my soul.

But then thereís nothing you canít hide
Or add to the bottom of a long legal doc.
