JIMMY WARNER DESIGN,
Musical Bow, Brass Angel & Mistletoe
Unwrapping the Gift
Deep echoes within the paper reflect hours of growing,
Setting fire to a darker
fantasy card, peep box version.
Regrets cling to tacky remembrances, the sleepy neon,
The still life with wine bottles, aspirin and fever, a place
In childhood's fir trees where personal Christmas saves
A future with tape and sticky fingerprints on cellophane.
Life comes in many boxes, in re-gifted wrappings, badly
Marked with inappropriate symbols and logic, bloodless
Humor and misplaced religious irony by Currier & Ives.
I trash compact my symbols into a vision of crushed
Beer cans, VFW halls, and floor dragged tinsel where
Women sway under mistletoe with less than an echo
Of shabby music I tortured myself to learn and perform,
Music that did nothing for anyone that alcohol and a
Radio couldn't do all by itself to a life of being ignored.
An angel past always wants to dance in the dark green
And ribbons in the clear Christmas under the eaves
Where the last, herald, brass notes are my own, a gift
I gave to myself. But, that's my Christmas, don't forget
To have your own merry, little whatever, sometimes...
